The ELAS collective was born from the exchange of ideas and experiences between two friends who, while facing the challenges of adapting to a new country, realized how difficult and isolating the process could be. Inspired by the stories of countless immigrant women, they began reflecting on what could have made their own journeys—and those of many others in similar situations—easier.
Stories like Maria`s served as a driving force to turn these reflections into action. With initial support from other immigrant women working in the field of migration, they invited professionals from various areas to join the collective and took the first step: a crowdfunding campaign that brought the project to life.
Our initiative was selected for the UNIKAT Crowdfunding 2022 campaign under the theme “Smart Ideas for Kassel.”
UNIKAT CROWDFUNDING is an initiative designed to support projects that explore how new technologies can be meaningfully integrated into people`s daily lives and promote social interaction. It is a joint project organized by the UniKasselTransfer Incubator, the Economic Development Agency of the Kassel Region, Kassel Science Park, the Department of Business Informatics at the University of Kassel, and Startnext.
In addition to the amount raised through crowdfunding and co-financing, our collective received one of five special awards on the final day of the campaign and was honored in the category “Living, Life, and Culture”.
"Open to Diversity - Closed to Exclusion" is a regional alliance of organizations, associations, and companies committed to promoting diversity in all its dimensions and opposing any form of exclusion in society and the workplace in Kassel and Northern Hesse.
Together with various other groups, we from the ELAS Collective participated in the "Open to Diversity 2022" competition. The jury selected the seven best projects, and we were honored with the award in the category Gender and Gender Identity.
Within civil society, we seek to contribute to the consolidation and renewal of social policies, strengthening the social groups involved through access to information and promoting an innovative project for the democratization of society, which combats gender, racial, and economic inequalities.
We do not intend to assume the role of the State in developing public integration measures, but we aim to help streamline information and foster a less formal and more participatory dialogue with migrant women.
We work to promote the empowerment of migrant women, a group often marginalized. By providing access to resources, information on rights, educational opportunities, and support to combat gender discrimination, we strive to create meaningful change.
Our work facilitates the social, economic, and cultural inclusion of migrant women by addressing inequalities based on gender, nationality, language, and social vulnerabilities.
It promotes the integration of migrant women in Kassel through interactive maps and useful information, contributing to the development of a more inclusive and sustainable city.
The platform offers information on integration courses, language learning, educational opportunities, and support for continued education, empowering women and their families through knowledge.
The platform maps health resources, including specialized services for women, psychological support, and information on reproductive health, promoting physical and mental well-being.
The platform promotes access to the job market, mentorships, training programs, and entrepreneurial support, fostering the economic autonomy of migrant women.
Our tools encourage reporting discrimination, promote access to legal support, and provide information on human rights, strengthening justice and social inclusion.
Our work establishes collaborations with local institutions, non-governmental organizations, and community initiatives to amplify impact and promote sustainable development.
